Biology EOC Flashcards
Cells
The smallest unit within a organisms structural organization that can support life
What do cells support
Cells support our bodies in all the processes of living such as taking in food and oxygen, producing heat and energy, eliminating wastes, and reproducing to create new cells
Are all cells the same?
No. Cells come in different shapes and sizes and they have different functions depending on the purpose of the cell
What are the 6 main functions of the cell
Structure and support
Growth
Reproduction
Transport
Energy
Metabolic reactions
Cell membrane
Forms an outer boundary around the cell to separate it from its surroundings
What is the cell membrane also known as
The plasma membrane
Cytoplasm
A jelly-like semifluid material that helps to give a cell its shape
