Biology ecology and food chain Flashcards
What is ecology?
Ecology is the study of living organisms in their environments.
Ecosystem
A community of living organisms sharing an environment
Population
Members of a particular species living in a particular environment
Habitat
An area of place in which an organism lives
Community
All the different populations of species living in a particular area
Niche
the role played out by the organism in an ecosystem
species
Individuals that closely resemble each other and are capable of interbreeding to produce a fertile offspring
Biodiversity
all the different kinds of life in one area.
why does food chains begin with producers?
energy enters living organisms through the process of photosynthesis in greeen plants, also called producers. This energy is absorbed into organic food molecules produced by rhe plants and is passed on to consumers through food chains.
What is a food chain
a series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food
What are the arrows for?
Tell where energy is passed
What does a food chain consists of?
Producer, Primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer and quaternary consumer
How are consumers classified? Explain.
Describe the predator, prey relationship.
What is symbiosis?
