What are a pair of antagonistic muscles?
One muscle contracts whilst the other expands.
What is a tendon?
The attachment of muscle to bone.
What is a ligament?
The attachment of bone to bone.
What muscles contract and expand when you move your forearm upwards?
Your biceps contract and your triceps relax.
What muscles contract and expand when you move your forearm downwards?
Your triceps contract and your biceps relax.
What is the job of an enzyme?
To break down large molecules into smaller ones so that they can be passed into the blood.
Are enzymes adapted to their function?
Yes.
What is the job of the nucleus in a cell?
It controls eating, movement and reproduction.
What is the job of the cell membrane in a cell?
Controls what moves in and out of the cell.
Which cell is found in the nose and contains tiny hairs that move mucus to the back of the throat?
Ciliated epithelial cell.
Which cell “swims” to an egg and fertilises it?
Sperm cell.
Which cell transports oxygen and nutrients to the lungs and other organs?
Red blood cell.
Which cell works in the immune system and protects the body from infectious diseases?
White blood cell.
Which cell transmits messages from one part of your body to another?
Nerve cell.
Why is the spinal cord a series of small bones rather than one long bone?
To allow movement and flexibility.
