Biology: cell membranes and proteins functions Flashcards
Cell membrane’s function
Protection layer on all cells that controls what exits and enters the cell
Cell wall’s function
Protection barrier for plant cells
Nucleus function
Houses DNA and controls movements within the cell
Mitochondria’s function
Is the powerhouse of the cell – controls cellular respiration and produces ATP energy
Golgi bodies function
Packages and exports proteins
Lysosome function
A membrane enclosed organelle that contains enzymes capable of breaking down protein, lipids, nucleic acids, and carbohydrates.
Chloroplast’s function
Is where photosynthesis takes place
Ribosomes function
Is where protein synthesis takes place
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Synthesise lipids
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Synthesise proteins
Vacuole
Storage place in the cell. Collects and removes waste products
Glycoprotein
for cell identification
Cholesterol
(part of the phospholipid bilayer in the plasma membrane), maintain fluidity , so things can move through smoothly and not rigid.
Receptor protein
a protein that binds hormones and other signal molecules
Adhesion protein
a plasma membrane protein that helps links cells together to form complex tissue
