Biology B2A Flashcards
What is diffusion?
The spreading out of particles from an area of high concentration to a low concentration.
Which part of a cell do particles diffuse through?
The membrane.
How are cells grouped?
cells, tissues, organs, organ systems.
What are the different organs?

Name some specialised cells.
The sperm & egg, palisade leaf cells, guard cells, red blood cells.
What is the rate of photosynthesis effected by?
Temperature, light, concentration OF CO2, food and water.
What is the difference between a quadrat and a transect?
Quadrat compares the amount of different organisms.
Transect measures the distribution of an organism.
Chloroplast?
Used in photosynthesis, makes food for the plant. Contains Chlorophyll which gives the leaf a green pigment.
Vacuole?
Contains cell sap which contains the sugar and salts for the plant.
Cell wall?
Made of cellulose - supports and strengthens the cell.
Ribosomes?
Where proteins are made.
Mitochondria?
Where respiration happens - Gives cell energy.
Cell membrane?
Holds cell together and controls what enters and exits the cell.
Cytoplasm?
Gel-like substance (with enzymes) where chemical reactions happen.
Nucleus?
Contains genetic material which controls cell activities.
