BIOLOGY AQA B2 Heart Flashcards
the heart
Whats the role of the circulatory system?
Transport oxygen and nutrients
What 3 things does the circulatory system consist of?
Blood, Heart, Blood vessels
How many chambers does the heart consist of?
4 chambers, the right atrium, the right ventricle, the left atrium, the left ventricle
How does deoxygenated blood enter the heart?
Vena cava
How does deoxygenated blood go to the lungs?
Pulmonary artery (arteries take blood away from the heart)
How does oxygenated blood enter the heart?
Pulmonary vein (veins take blood to the heart)
How does oxygenated blood go to the whole body?
Out of the Aorta
Journey of deoxygenated blood?
The blood starts of deoxygenated and and enters through the vena cava into the right atrium contracts into the right ventricle, the heart contracts again, taking the blood out into the pulmonary artery which will take the blood to the lungs.
Journey of oxygenated blood?
the deoxygenated blood flows through the pulmonary vein into the left atrium and contracts to the left ventricle, the heart contracts again taking the blood to the aorta to travel through the whole body.
What do pacemakers do?
Provide electrical impulses
What are coronary arteries?
They cover the heart and provide nutrients and oxygen
