Q

Explain how the predator-prey relationships are benificial to the prey.

A

It is benificail to the prey, because when the predator population is high the prey don’t over populate. It aslo prevents starvation, eliminates the older and weaker organisms.

Q

Explain interspecies competition and how resource partitioning limits it.

A

Interspeices competition happens when 2 or more species need the same resources to survive. Resource partitoning is when similar species can coexist with slightly different niches.

Q

What is natural selection?

A

It is when the environment decides what characteristics are advantagus, and when nature favors one species more than the other.

Q

Explain the difference between a secialist and a generalist.

A

A specialist has a narrow niche which means that it only surves with one role in biological diversity. A generalist has a broad niche which means that it can survive on many roles in biological diversity.

Q

Identify an advantage and disadvantage for both broad and narrow niches.

A

Broad niche - Advantage: can adapt to sudden changes
Disadvantage: Increases interspecies
competition
Narrow niche - Advantage: can live in small areas
Disadvantage: They are over
specialized

16
Q

Define Genus.

A

Genus is the more specific way to say what an animal or plant is.

17
Q

Define species.

A

A genus that has been broken into different categories.

18
Q

Define kingdom.

A

kingdom is the most general classification in the triangle. And is the way of saying all life on earth.

19
Q

Define phylum.

A

Phylum is the second most general classification in the triangle. And is the way of saying animals or plants.

20
Q

Define class.

A

Class is the third most general classification in the triangle. And is the way of saying animals or plants that are alike in a broad way.

21
Q

Define order.

A

Order is the middle of the classification triangle. And is composed of families that share a similar characteristic.

22
Q

Define Family.

A

Family is the third most specific classification in the triangle. And is describing something with simialr characteristics like birds.

23
Q

What is the definition for the three interdependances?

A

Commensalism - one oragnism benifits while on is not benifiting nor is harmed

Mutualism - When both organisms benift

Parasitism - when one organism is benifiting while one is harmed.

24
Q

What is a niche?

A

A niche is the biological role of organisms.
