Biology Flashcards
Archaea
Single-celled organisms lacking nuclei (prokaryotes), formerly called archaebacteria, but now known to differ fundamentally from bacteria - One of the three highest-level Domains of organisms - Initially only found as extremophiles, now found nearly everywhere
Prokaryote
An organism whose cell (or cells) are characterized by the absence of a nucleus or any other membrane-bound organelles - Both archaea y bacteria are prokaryotic organisms, as opposed to eukaryotes - All the intracellular water-soluble components (proteins, DNA y metabolites) are located together in the cytoplasm enclosed by the cell membrane
B Vitamins (8)
B1 - Thiamine B2 - Riboflavin B3 - Niacin B5 - Pantothenic Acid B6 - Pyridoxine B7 - Biotin B9 - Folic Acid B12 - Cobalamin
Essential amino acids (9)
Amino acids that can’t be synthesized by human body, y thus must be supplied in the diet - Phenylalanine, valine, threonine, tryptophan, methionine, leucine, isoleucine, lysine, y histidine
