Biology Flashcards
What are the properties of a BACTERIAL cell?
Properties of bacterial cells include: a cell wall, a cell membrane, DNA loop and cytoplasm.
What are the properties of a YEAST cell?
The properties of a yeast cell include: a cell wall, a cell membrane, a nucleus, and cytoplasm.
What are the properties of a PLANT cell?
The properties of a plant cell include: a cell wall, cell membrane, vacuole, chloroplast, mitochondria, and nucleus.
What are the properties of an ANIMAL cell?
The properties of an animal cell includes: a nucleus, a cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria and riposomes.
What do organisms fight for to survive?
Plants fight for: light, carbon dioxide, space, water and minerals.
Animals fight for: food, land mates and water.
What are enzyme uses?
Enzymes are used for: washing powder, slimming food, and baby food.
Name three types of enzymes.
1) Lipases ~ liquids
2) Proteases ~ proteins
3) Amylase ~ carbohydrates
Where are enzymes found?
Lipases can be found in the small intestines.
Proteases can be found in the pancreas, small intestines and the stomach.
Amylase can be found in the pancreas, small intestines and the salivary glands
How do enzymes work?
Enzymes are proteins folded into complex shapes that allow smaller molecules to fit into them. The place where these substrate molecules fit is called the active site.
What do you call an enzyme that doesn’t work?
An enzyme that doesn’t work is called ‘denatured’.
What are enzymes?
Enzymes are biological catalysts. it speeds up reactions, uses less energy and can be used again.
What are proteins?
Long chain proteins fold up to form enzymes. The shape of enzymes determine its function. Different enzymes need to break down different chemicals and substances.
