Biology Flashcards
What are the seven life processes? (MRS NERG)
MOVEMENT REPRODUCTION SENSITIVITY NUTRITION EXCRETION RESPIRATION GROWTH
What are all living things made out of?
Cells
What can we use to help us see cells?
A microscope
What two types of cell are there?
Animal and Plant cells
What are the five senses?
Hear Touch Taste Smell See
What two types of cells are there?
Animal and plant cells
What does the nucleus do?
It controls the cell activity
What does the cytoplasm do?
Where chemical reactions happen
What does the cell membrane do?
Protects the cell and controls what goes in and out.
What does the cell wall do?
Protects the cell
What does the vacuole?
Makes the cell firm
What does the chloroplasts do?
They contain chlorophyll for photosynthesis
Name two things that are different about animal cells and plant cells?
- Animal cells have a cell membrane and plant cells have a cell wall.
- Plant cells have a vacuole and humans don’t
- Animals do not have chloroplasts
What is a group of cells called?
A tissue
What is a group of tissues called?
An organ
What is a group of organs called?
An organ system
What are the four plant organs?
Flowers
Stems
Leaves
Roots
What happens in the flower?
Reproduction
What are the three steps to plant reproduction? (2 marks)
- The plant attracts insects
2. The insects collects the both flowers pollen which is called pollination.
What two does the stem do?
- Keeps the flower upright and facing the sun
2. Carries water, minerals and food around the plant
What three life processes is the stem important for?
Nutrition
Excretion
Growth
What do the roots do?
- Helps the flower stay firm and not blow away
How do the roots help with photosynthesis?
Has a big surface area to take in water and minerals for photosynthesis
What happens in the leaves?
Photosynthesis
