Biology 2a Flashcards
What three things do plant cells have that animal cells don’t?
Cell Wall
Permanent Vacuole
Chloroplasts
Where is DNA found in bacterial cells?
In the cytoplasm because they don’t have a nucleus.
Where is the DNA found in animal cells?
In the Nucleus
What is diffusion?
DIFFUSION is the spreading out of particles from an area of HIGH CONCENTRATION to an area of LOW CONCENTRATION.
Name one molecule that can diffuse through cell membranes.
Oxygen
What is a tissue?
A tissue is a group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function.
What is an organ?
An organ is a group of different tissues that work together to perform a certain function.
Give one example of a plant tissue.
Epidermal tissue
Give an example of a plant organ.
Stems
Give one example of a tissue in the human stomach, and say what job it does.
Muscular tissue, this moves the stomach wall to mix up the food.
Name one organ system found in the human body.
The digestive system.
What is the green substance in leaves that absorbs sunlight?
Chlorophyll
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
sunlight
Carbon dioxide + water —> glucose + oxygen
chlorophyll
Name the three factors that can limit the rate of photosynthesis.
How much light there is
The amount of carbon dioxide
The temperature
Explain why it’s important that a plant doesn’t get too hot.
The enzymes will get damaged if the temperature is over 45 C, therefore photosynthesis will not happen at all.
