Q

Measuring population rise of a common species in a habitat using random sampling

A

Measure 20 x 20 area
Divide this into grids and adding each square a number
Use random number generator to randomly choose a place to place the Quadrat
Count number of organisms in Quadrat
Take temp and LUX levels
Repeats 3-5 9 more times
Calculate mean number
Divide 20 x 20 into the size of the Quadrat, multiply this number with your mean number

Q

Why can’t you place the Quadrat wherever?

A

Not representative of whole area, must be random

11
Q

Investigating distribution of species as environment changes using systematic sampling

A

Lay out 20 m tape 90° from path
Place Quadrat at 0m and count data
Move along and repeat twice more (to discard anomalies)
Measure LUX and temp
Move 5m along and repeat 3 & 4
Get a mean number for every 5m away and see your results
