Biology Flashcards
What produces proteins?
Ribosomes
Definition of cytoplasm?
Jelly like substance containing dissolved molecules such as enzymes, sugars, amino acids and fatty acids.
Nucleolus definition?
Creates ribosomes, DNA & Protein.
What are the two types of cells?
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic
What happens in the cytoplasm of an animal cell?
Chemical reactions.
What happens in mitochondria of a cell?
Aerobic respiration.
What does the cell membrane do in a cell?
The thin layer of membrane lets substances in and out.
What does the nucleus do in an animal cell?
The genes of the nucleus controls what the cell does.
Mitochondria is where respiration occurs, what is respiration in animal cells?
The process of cells turning food into energy.
What components do plant cells have that animal cells do not have?
Vacuole, Cell wall and Chloroplasts.
What happens in chloroplasts?
Photosynthesis.
What is a permanent vacuole?
A large space containing cell sap, which helps the cell keep it’s shape.
Cell sap is stored in the vacuole of a plant cell. What is cell sap?
A watery solution of amounts of food and waste materials.
Chloroplasts is where photosynthesis occurs, what does photosynthesis do?
Photosynthesis is where planets use energy from sunlight to create food.
What is a tissue made up of?
A group of similar cells.
What is an organ made up of?
A group of different tissues.
What is an organ system made up of?
A group of organs working together.
What is the heart made up of?
The heart is an organ, therefore it’s made up of different tissues.
What is the cardiovascular system?
A system in the body which moves blood around the body.
