Biology Flashcards
Animals
Can move
Cannot make their own food
Divided into inervetebrates and vertebrates
Vertebrates have a backbone e.g human,dog,fish,bird
Invertebrates do not have a back bone e.g worms, insects, snails
PLANTS
Fixed in one position
Make their own food
(Photosynthesis)
Know the difference
between them by studying their leaves and flowers
Cell membrane
Cell membrane - allows substances to pass in and out of the cell
Cytoplasm
Cytoplasm - watery fluid that gives support to the cell
.
Nucleus
• Nucleus - controls the cells activity’s
Vacuole
Vacuole - (larger and permanent in plants) storage of food, water, wastes
Cell wall
Cell wall- (only in plant cell) gives strength to the cell
Chloroplasts
Chloroplasts- (only in plant cell) contains chlorophyll to help make food
Base
Keeps the microscope stabe
Stage and stage clips
Holds the slide in place
Light source
A built in light bulb or mirror that lights up the specimen
Diaphragm
Controls the amount of light passing through the specimen
Objective lens
Magnifies the specimen by different factors (4x,10x,40x,)
Eyepiece lens
Magnifies the specimen usually by factor of 10 (x10)
Coarse focus
Brings the image into rough focus
