biology 💕 Flashcards
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is a chemical process in which green plants make their own food using sunlight. This food is made in the form of glucose.
Where does photosynthesis take place?
It takes place in the chloroplast found within the cells; it is chloroplast that contains the green pigment chlorophyll which absorbs light.
What do plants use to grow?
Plants use glucose to grow as well as make other useful substances
What exactly can be broken down in plants?
The glucose can also be broken down in the plant by respiration
Which four things are needed for the plant to photosynthesise?
sunlight , chlorophyll, carbon dioxide and water
How do you test for oxygen?
If oxygen is present it will relight a glowing splint
by which process does water enter the root hair cell ?
osmosis
how is the root hair cell adapted to absorb water
-large surface area
-large vacuole
-thin cell wall
where does light absorbing happen?
the palisade mesophyll tissue
what are palisade?
they are column- shaped and packed with many chloroplast
