biology Flashcards
what is a pathogen
a disease causing organism such as viruses, bacteria, fungi and protists.
what is health
a state of physical and mental well being
definition of communicable diseases
disease caused by pathogens that can be passed from one person to another
definition non communicable disease
disease that is not caused by a pathogen so it cannot be passed from one person to another
name 3 communicable diseases
flu , measles and varucas
name 3 non communicable diseases
arthritis,cancer, food poisoning
name 3 health factors
ethnicity,financial status,living conditions, diet,gender and location
what is bacteria?
Bacteria is much smaller than our cells. not all bacteria can make us sick and not all of them are pathogens. Bacteria makes us sick by releasing toxins into our body.
what are viruses ?
viruses are much smaller than our cells bacteria. viruses ‘hijack’ cells and force them to name copies of itself. viruses burst your cells.
name 4 pathogenic diseases
fungi,bacteria,viruses, and protist
what do white blood cells do
white blood cells engolf pathogens and breaks them down
what is photosynthesis
a chemical reaction which takes place in the chloroplast, converting sunlight energy, water and carbon dioxide into glucose and oxygen
what’s the equation for photosynthesis
carbon dioxide+water(light+chlorophyll)—>glucose+oxygen
or
CO2+H20—>C6H12O6+O2
is photosynthesis an exothermic or endothermic reaction
endothermic
what is chloroplast
organelle where photosynthesis takes place
