Biology 10th ICSE: Nervous System Flashcards
1
Q
What does our Nervous System consist of?
A
- Brain
- Spinal Cord
- Sense Receptors
- Nerves
2
Q
State the structure of a Neuron
A
- Cell Body [AKA Perikaryon or Cyton]
(meaning: Peri = Surrounding | Karyon = Nucleus) - Dendrites
(meaning: Dendron = Tree / Branch) - Axon
3
Q
What are Synaptic Clefts?
A
Axon terminals are closely placed near the dendrites of another one or more neuron but are NOT CONNECTED. Such gaps are called ‘Synaptic Clefts’.
4
Q
What are the gaps throughout the Myelin sheath known as?
A
Nodes of Ranvier
5
Q
What is Myelin?
A
It is a white insulating sheath that surrounds the axon.
