biology 1 test Flashcards
whats biology
the study of life
whats the steps of the scientific method.
Ask a question and observe, form a hypophysis, set up a controlled experiment, record and analyze data, draw conclusions
Explain each step of the scientific method.
hypophysis in a statement based on observation
The experiment is a way to test your hypothesis
collect and analyze data throughout the experiment
Draw a conclusion based on data and the analyzes
the difference between hypotheses and theories
Hypnosis can be disproved by one experiment
Theories can be revised/ replaced but takes several experiments to replace/revise
Explain the difference between the control and experimental group.
A control experiment is the same all across the board except for one thing. An experimental group just follows the same thing all across.
Whats Redi’s experiment
Redi used two jars of meat to try and prove spontaneous generation false. He put a piece of meat in both jars but covered one in gauze so flies couldn’t get in. A few days later there were maggots on one meat and not on the cover meat.
Whats Spallanzani’s experiment.
Spallanzanis’s experiment was to boil the gravy super hot to kill the bacteria and microrganisms. After that was done he sealed one closed and left the other open for a while. When he came back the sealed one was free from living matter but not the unseale
Whats spontaneous generation
Spontaneous generation is when things just show up out of know where.
the difference between inference and observation.
Observation is when you use your senses to observe. An inference is a logical interpretation based on prior knowledge or experience.
Who is the scientist that disproved spontaneous generation, and
what was his experiment?
Louis Pasteur is the guy who disproved it and he did that buy making a specific flask and following Spallzaniis expermint. He left the bottles for a year and after a year when no living things where in the one flask he broke it open and with in days they were tons
Explain the difference between the manipulated variable and
responding variable in an experiment.
the variable that is deliberately changed is called the
manipulated variable/ independent variable
The variable that is observed and that changes in response to the manipulated variable is called the
responding variable/dependent variable
