Biologics and Anti-TNF Flashcards
What are the 4 types of antibodies we use
Mouse, chimeric, humanised, human
What does TNF-a do?
inflammatory cytokine produced by macrophages/monocytes during acute inflammation
Prothrombic action
Growth factor
Induces other cytokines
Regulates haematopoiesis
Induces endothelial adhesion molecules
What is infliximab?
chimeric (part human part mouse) anti-TNF MAB
What is Etanercept?
Recombinant soluble human TNF linked to human immunoglobin
What are IL-6 and Jak inhibitors?
Biologics!
How do JAK inhibitors work
For severe RA
Offered when DMARDS don’t work
Prevent STAT from being phosphorylated and therefore prevent gene transcription
Name a JAK inhibitor
either Tofacitinib or Baricitinib
