Edwards et al (2011)
A
Meta-analysis of 16 articles
2
Q
Edwards et al (2011) INCLUSION CRITERIA (3 items)
A
- Examined very preterm (<32 weeks) and/or VLBW (<1500 g) infants to school age (age, 5-18 years),
- Had a full-term and/or normal birth weight comparison group.
- Used a formal measure of motor impairment.
3
Q
Edwards et al (2011) EXCLUSION CRITERIA (2 items)
A
- Only included infants who were small for gestational age.
2. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy
4
Q
Edwards et al (2011) FINDINGS
A
DCD is consistently more prevalent in the VLBW/very preterm population than full-term/normal birth weight control children.
5
Q
Edwards et al (2011) STRENGTH
A
Each study was of high quality based on a rating of 7 to 9 stars on the NOQ Assessment Scale
(Less significant bias/limitation from each study carried to carried forward to this review).
6
Q
Edwards et al (2011) LIMITATIONS
A
- Many attempted to use blind examiners, but this wasn’t always possible due to overt differences in motor ability between experimental and control group.
- Some Pre-1994: DSM-IV published in 1994, before this the DSM didn’t include consistent DCD criteria.
