Biological Perspective Flashcards
Reuptake
Process by which neurotransmitters are taken back into the synaptic vesicles.
Glial Cells
Support for neurons, 90% of cells in the brain, delivers nutrients, produces myelin, and cleans waste/dead neurons.
Neuroscience
Deals with the structure of neurons and nerves and their relationship to behavior in the brain.
Synaptic Gap
Microscopic fluid filled space between the synaptic knob of one cell and the dendrites or surface of the next cell.
Receptor
Holes in surface of dendrites or muscle and gland cells
Occipital Lobes
At the base of the cortex which processes visual information from the eyes in Primary Visual Cortex
Frontal Lobe
Located at the front of the brain. Is responsible for personality, attention, decision making and speech. Also sends
Primary Visual Cortex
Processes Light, Lines, Color and Texture.
Temporal Lobes
Responsible for auditory hearing.
Parietal Lobe
Located at the top and back of the brain. It processes info from the skin and internal body receptors. for touch temperature, and body position.
Pons
Plays a part in sleep, dreaming, left-right body coordination and, arousal.
Limbic System
Associated with emotions, motivation drive, and memoirs.
Thalamus
Receives sensory info, relays info to the cortex.
Hypothalamus
Body temp, thirst, hunger, sleeping, walking, sexual activities, emotions, and fight/fight
What happens when a rat walks across an electric grid.
The hypothalamus is manipulated to navigate fields and climb trees.
