Biological Approach- Assumptions Flashcards
1
Q
- Evolutionary Influences
A
- Natural selection
- People with the best genetically determined behaviour are more likely to survive and pass on their genes
- EEA: Environment of Evolutionary Adaptiveness was 2 million years ago in sub-Saharan Africa, environment in which any species is adapted & the pressure of existing at the time
- Genome lag when adaptive behaviours still exist due to the environment changing faster than instincts
2
Q
- Localisation of brain functions
A
- Different parts of the brain control different things
- Prefrontal lobe, higher thinking and creativity
- -Temporal lobe, auditory thinking and creativity
- Occipital lobe, visual processing
- Parietal lobe, sensory information
- Broca’s area, speech production
3
Q
- Neurotransmitters
A
- Behaviour is controlled by Neurotransmitters
- Serotonin, involved in emotion, mood, sleeping and eating, too little is linked to depression
- Gaba, inhibitory neurotransmitters, too little is linked to anxiety
- Dopamine, helps with movement, attention and learning. Too much is linked to schizophrenia, too little could link to depression and Parkinson’s
4
Q
Relationship Formation
A
Relationships form with individuals who posses’ certain traits
-Women look for: signs of fertility, healthiness, ability to find resources for offspring and able to survive
-Men look for: Smooth skin, glossy hair, red lips, thin waist, youthfulness, and healthiness
-Dopamine: Pleasure seeking- form relationships natural high
Oxytocin- Human bonding: romantic attainment- drive to bond with others
