8
Q

describe the structure of a neurone

A

at one end: dendrites (finger like structures surrounding nucleus)
from nucleus there is a long extension called an axon which reaches to an axon terminal
axon is where electrical signals from cell body travels
axon terminal has branches at end of branch is a terminal button]
axon is protected by myelin sheath which surrounds it + forms insulation layer
myelin sheath thins to nodes of ranvier

9
Q

how to electrical messages arise in the cell body

A

due to voltage of ions in body
ions arise in certain voltages and there is a reaction which causes an action potential
action potential travels into axon via axon hillock, protected by myelin sheath
electrical signal jumps from node to node
