2
Q

what does the brain and spinal cord do

A

controls behaviour
monitors psychological processes
recieves information from the sensory receptors
sends info into the muscles and gland
spinal cord relays info from the brain to rest of body is through spinal nerves

12
Q

what do parasympathetic nervous systems do

A

releases hormones and neurotransmitters which have inhibitory effects (calms the body)

13
Q

what are neurontransmitters

A

when nerve impulses reaches the end of one neuron a chemical a neurotransmitter is released

and it travels from one neuron to the next across a function called the synapse

14
Q

what types of neurotransmitters

A

some triggers the receiving neuron to send an impulse and some stop it from doing so

those trigger nerve impulses in the receiving neuron and stimulate the brain into action called excitatory neurotransmitters

these that slow down nerve impulses in order to calm the brain and balance mood called inhibitory transmitters

what is the endocrine system

A

is a network of glands throughout the body that manufacture and secrete hormones into the bloodstream

16
Q

what is the function of the endocrine system

A

works closely within the nervous system to regulate the physiological processes in the human body

17
Q

what are hormones

A

chemicals that are produced by endocrine glands in the body and released into the bloodstream

18
Q

what do the endocrine glands do

A

they release hormones in response to signals from the brain

19
Q

what do hormones do

A

travel to their target cells and stimulate receptors on the surface or inside the cells causing a physiological reaction and altering the activity of the cell
