Biological approach Flashcards
What are the assumptions of the biological approach
- how different parts pf the brain work
- extreme side of nature
- contains genes, DNA, factors
- agrees with cognitive approach with internal processes
- disagrees with behaviourist approach/ would criticise it.
What are the different types of genetic behaviour ?
- genes
- genotype
- phenotype
- evolution
What is the definition of genes?
genes are a section of DNA that is basic physical and functional unit of heredity.
What is the definition of genotype?
your genetic makeup of an organism
What is the definition of phenotype?
an individuals observable characteristics.
What is the definition of evolution?
net directional change in the chartacteristics of organisms or populations over many genetics.
What are the three studies involved in the approach?
- twin studies
-family studies - adoption studies
What does the twin studies involve?
-psychologists use twin studies to investigate the genetic basis of behaviour.
-monozygotic - identical twins
-dizygotic - non-identical twins
What are concordance rates?
The extent of which a pair of twins share similar rates or characteristics.
there should be a 100%rate between monozygotic twins.
What are family studies?
