Biological and enviromental foundation Flashcards
Dominant Genes
a gene it does not matter what the other genes says, if this one has a specific characteristic thats what its gonna happen
-it overides any other characteristic
ex:brown eyecolor(dominant) + blue eyes (recessive) = brown eyes
recessive
- this genes will only appear if it matches the other same characteristics
ex:blue eyes(ressesive) + blue eyes (recessive) = blue eyes
gene-enviroment interactions:Range of Reaction
wide range of potential expressions of genetic traits, dependig on enviromental opportunities and costrains
ex:depression,obesidity
pre-disposition to be thin but the enviroment allows you to eat a lot of food makes you abese
Gene-Enviroment Interactions: Canalization
opposit of range of reaction
Heredity narrows range of development to only one or possibly a few outcomes
ex:children walk in 4 months,we dont see kids being able to walk before that (although they might be some special reasons that is not true)
canals are narrow
Maternal Characteristics and Behaviours
- **Nutrition: **mothers must eat a lot, and they need to get pholectic acid
*** Maternal Illness: **if they get sick(varius) it can cause miscarage or problems in child development but it depends on what kinda of verius and when she gets it(what phase of development the fetus is in)
ex:zica virus
- Emotional well-being(cronic stress/trauma): kids agressive behaviour,ADD,anxiety can link to parents stress while pregnant
- Age: the older you are the harder is to get pregnant and maintaning the pregancy, women over 40 have higher risk pregancy complications, over 40 have higher risk to have down syndrom kids, more likely to have a still-born baby
- Prenatal care: need to get time of work, transportation abilityto have pre-natal care
- prenatal care is very important to have a healthy baby
- ethinic and SES Diaspear: much less likely to get prenatal care
