Biogernetics Flashcards
Is photosynthesis an endo or exothermic reaction
-Endothermic because it takes in light energy
where does photosyntheisis take place within the plant?
-the leaves
What is the word equation for photosynthesis
-carbon dioxide + water -> (in the preseance of light and chlorophyll) glucose + oxygen
What is the chemical formula for glucose.
C6H12O6
What happens when the light intensity is increased
If the light intensity is increadsed the rate of photosynthesis increases. The light intensity is the limiting factor when increasing the intesity increases the reaction
What happens when the light intensity is increased
If the light intensity is increadsed the rate of photosynthesis increases. The light intensity is the limiting factor when increasing the intesity increases the reaction
What happens when the carbon dioxide leves are increased?
the rate of photosynthesis increases. the carbon dioxide is the limiting factor as the carbon dioxide can change the rate of photosynthis
How can the amount of chlorophyl effect rate of photosynthis
-more photosynthesis occurs as there is more light
how can the temp effect the rate of photosynthesis
-enzymes will denature, so there is an optimum tempreture
What is glucose used for
- respiration
- produce insoluble storage molecule known as starch - useful as plant need to respire even when there is no light
- make cellulose to strengthen cell walls
- produce amino acids - this is for proteinsynthesis - they also need nitrate ions
Name 4 factors that effect photosynthesis
- temp
- amount of chlorophyll
- light
- amount of co2
Why are greenhouses used?
- increases light
- increases temp
- can increase co2
- increases photosynthesis
Why is respiration inportant
- energy for movement
- keep warm
- need energy for chemical reactions
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
-glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water + ENERGY
what is the chemical equation for aerobic respiration
C6H12O6 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O + energy
