Biofeedback Flashcards
1
Q
Feedback from some measuring instrument that provides moment-to-moment information about a specific biologic function
A
Biofeedback
2
Q
Measure, process, and feed back electrical activity associated with a muscle contraction via auditory or visual signals
A
Electromyographic Biofeedback
3
Q
Clinical applications of electromyographic biofeedback:
A
-
Muscle re-education:
- Used to elicit muscle contractions
- more useful for pt with MMT of trace of zero
- incorporate FUNTIONS relevant to the pt
-
Relaxation of muscle guarding:
- To relax the muscle guarding by reducing the visual or auditory feedback to zero
Indirectly:
- Pain reduction: by reducing the “pain-guarding-pain” cycle
- Treating neurologic and other conditions: e.g. Hemiplegia following a stroke, SCI, Spastiscity, CP, Facial paralysis, urinar and fecal incontinence
