Bioenergetics Flashcards
Where does photosynthesis take place?
Inside the chloroplasts.
Where is chloroplasts found?
In plants and algae
What kind of reaction is photosynthesis?
Endothermic
What does endothermic mean in terms of photosynthesis?
It means that it requires energy for photosynthesis to occur.
What does chloroplast contain?
Chlorophyll.
What is the source of energy for photosynthesis?
Sunlight.
What happens to the sunlight during photosynthesis?
It gets trapped by a chemical called chlorophyll inside chloroplasts in plant cells.
What is chlorophyll?
A pigment that can absorb light energy.
What is aerobic respiration?
A form of respiration that uses oxygen to release energy from molecules like glucose.
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water
What is anaerobic respiration?
A form of respiration that releases energy from molecules like glucose without using oxygen.
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in plants?
Glucose → ethanol + carbon dioxide
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in humans?
Glucose → lactic acid
What is cellular respiration?
An exothermic reaction which is continuously occurring in living cells.
What is inverse proportion?
A relationship between two values where as one value increases, the other value decreases at the same rate.
