BIodiversity is important because…

A

Anthropogenic: related to actual human use (economically useful)
Intrinsic: Related to human emotion (what emotions cause us to preserve environment? Guilt, animal rights. etc)

Q

Natural Selection

A

Put very simply, he proposed that organisms produce excess
offspring which then compete for resources. The offspring with the
best inherited adaptations survive to reproduce, and so populations
gradually change to suit their environments.

If two sub-populations are exposed to different environments, they
will gradually come to differ from each other. Given long enough, in
a variable environment, ancestral populations will give rise to two (or
more) quite different descendant populations.

A

Ancestor- where tree beings.
Point where two lines meet- speciation event
line before speciation event: ancestral lineage
clade includes ancestor and ALL descendants
