Biochemical Processes Flashcards
What are biochemical processes?
The chemical processes that occur in living organisms involving biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids).
What is glycolysis?
The conversion of a single glucose molecule (6 carbon molecules) into 2 pyruvate molecules. From this point, the cell can undergo 2 forms of respiration.
- It occurs in the cytoplasm.
What are the two types of cellular respiration?
Aerobic and anaerobic.
What is the difference between the two types of respiration?
Aerobic (with oxygen): occurs in mitochondria and produces 36 ATP.
Anaerobic (without oxygen): occurs in cytoplasm and produces 2 ATP.
What is cellular respiration?
The process by which cells derive chemical energy from glucose.
Recall the formula of cellular respiration.
Search it up and memorise the chemical formula.
Recall what ATP stands for.
Adenosine triphosphate.
