Bio unit 2 Flashcards
Osmosis
Water traveling through a semi-permeable membrane (essentially cell membrane)
Semi-permeable
Lets some materials trough but not others (like the egg from the lab)
Cell membrane
Controls what goes in and out of the cell
Phospholipid Bilayer
Two layers of lipids
one layer that is polar unequal share of elcectrons among atoms and one layer that is vice versa
Cytoplasm
liquid that fills the inside of a cell and holds cells in place and protects them from damage
Ribosomes
Protein
Homeostasis
maintain relatively stable equilibrium
Simple diffusion
a type of passive transport
moves with concentration gradient from high to low concentration
Facilitated diffusion
moves with concertation gradient but doesn’t take energy and help things pass(glucose needs protein channel)
ATP
Can power active transport
Endocytosis
A type of active transport in which a cell englufs/invaginates a substance
Exocytosis
A type of active transport in which a cell transports a substance out of a cell using a vacuole
