Q

Describe osmoregulation

A

-control of balance of water and mineral salts in the body. -if the balance is incorrect cells may take in or lose too much water by osmosis. - cells become damaged

16
Q

What is the name of the process in which water ,urea and glucose pass into the nephron

A

Filtration

17
Q

What substances can’t get through the glomerulus

A

Protein and blood cells

18
Q

Describe the whole process of selective reabsorption of glucose and water

A

1)The filtrate flows along the nephron.
2) at the first convoluted tubule certain, useful molecules such as glucose and water are reabsorbed back into the blood
3)proteins in the cell membrane of the first convoluted tubule pumps the glucose and water from the nephron to blood by active transport

19
Q

Describe the whole process of selective reabsorption of water

A

1)Some water is reabsorbed via osmosis in the loop of Henie back into the blood
2) additional water may be absorbed from the collecting duct if the body is dehydrated

20
Q

Describe excretion

A

At the end of the nephron the remaining fluid flows into the ureter
The fluid containing excess water that the body doesn’t need plus urea and other substances now it is know as urine

21
Q

What happens to your adh levels when water content is too high

A

1)Water content is too high
2) hypothalamus detects and pituitary gland releases less adh
3)adh makes the collecting ducts become less permeable
4)less water is reabsorbed
5 ) normal blood water content
