Bio test Flashcards
definition of autotroph
Harvests energy from inorganic substances
Definition of Biomass
total mass of organisms in a given area
Definition of biome
an area classified to a species that lives in that population
definition of carrying Compacity
The max amount or organisms that can live in that area.
definition of expotential growth
growth of a population increasing over time s shaped curve
definition of logistic growth
a growth of a population decreasing over time s shaped curve
ecology
relations to organisms and there physical surounding
ecosystem
interacting organisms and there physical enviorment
Symbiosis
mutual advantage taken by both both organisms
Comunalism
a system in which one organism benefits and thee other recieves no benefit or harm
Mutualism
the belefe that mutual dependence is the key to well being
succesion
the change a species faces over time
food chain
a higharchy of organism dependent on each other for food.
food web
a collection of food chanes
Explain energy transfer
Only 10 percent of calories are passed on during consumption the rest are either used by the organism or lost in heat
Explain the carbon cycle
Producers pull carbon from the air and ubsorb it consumers eat the plants. The consumers die and decompose millions of years later they become fossil fuel
Explain the Nitrogen cycle
Nitrogen is taken from the air by bacteris into dirt that is obsorbed by plants animals eat the plants and die and decompose. Through the process of nitrogen fixation. nitrogen becomes gass again.a
Reliabilty versus validity
Reliability is repeatabitly. Validity is acuracy. We look at quantitive dats for Reliability and qualitive data for accuracy
Trophic levels
- producers. 2.primary consumers. 3. secoundary consumers. 4 .teritory consumers
Explain the ecological pyramid
- 100 percent energy producers. 2. 10 percent energy primary consumers . 3. 1 percent energy secoundary consmers. 4. 0.1 percent energy teritory consumers.
Bio mass pyramid
1.producers.2 herbevore. 3. primary carnivore. 4. top carnivoire
Population density
number of orgainisms per square unit area.
Abiotic
nonliving componanants to an ecosystem.
biotic
living componants to an ecosystem
niche
full range of consitions in which an orgainism lives.
