What is the correct way of formatting a scientific name?
Genus name first, always capitalized. Species name second, never capitalized. Italicized when writing or underlined when handwritten

The grouping of organisms based on trains

Domain Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya
What are the four major groups of eukaryotes?
Protists, Kingdom Plantae, Kingdom Fungi, KIngdom Animalia
Define Emergent Properties
result from the specific arrangement and interactions of component parts
LIst the different levels of hierarchical organization from the smallest level to the largest level

What is the relationship between Science and Technology?
The goal of science is to understand natural phenomena. Technology on the other hand, is using scientific knowledge for practical purposes
Define Evolution
the scientific explanation for unity and diversity
How does Natural Selection play a role in Evolution?
If an individual is born with a certain trait, good or bad, it will most likely be passed to the next generation. For example, if a bird of a certain species is born with super sight, once that bird starts reproducing, all of those birds will start to have super sight as well
Define Artificial Selection
selective breeding of plants and animals, and humans who act as agents of evolution
What does genetic info encoded in DNA do?
It determines an organism’s structures and functions
Define Gene
units of inheritance
Define Gene Expression
when a gene’s info is first transcribed from DNA to an intermediate molecule, RNA. This molecule carries the info to the protein - manufacturing machinery in the cell. Once a chain of protein building blocks is completed, they form a specific protein with a unique shape and function
How does the flow of energy differ from the cycling of matter?
Energy flow cannot be recycled while matter can.
Define Systems of Biology
the attempt to model the behavior of biological systems by analyzing the interactions among their parts
What is the Metric System?
a universal system based on powers of 10 for measurements
What is the order of the several other taxa? (Donkey, Kangaroo, Python, Cobra, Orca, Fox, Gator, Snake)
