Function
Produce digestive juices containing enzymes that chemically break down food molecules
Stomach
Where the digestion of protein in food takes place
Example sentence: The stomach is responsible for breaking down proteins into smaller molecules.
Liver
Produces bile, which helps in the digestion of lipids (fats)
Example sentence: The liver secretes bile to aid in the digestion of fats.
Small intestine
Where digestion takes place and where soluble food is absorbed into the bloodstream
Example sentence: The small intestine is where nutrients from food are absorbed into the body.
Large Intestine
Where water is absorbed from undigested food, producing faeces
Example sentence: The large intestine helps in the reabsorption of water from waste material.
