Bio Flashcards
yes
Give two ways pathogens cause disease
-They release toxins
-they do tissue damage
What is an antigen
A protein that stimulates the production of antibodies
Why is the mitochondria, Golgi and rer associated with B lymphocytes
B lymphocytes are made from protein which is stimulated by an antigen coming into contact with a pathogen. Ribosomes in the RER make proteins and Mitochondria produces ATP for protein synthesis
injecting a person with antivenin doesn’t give them long term protection, why?
Because its passive immunity and no memory cells are made
Suggest one possible problem with injecting people with antivenin made passively?
could transfer Disease
Describe the function and structure of nucleus
Structure
-Nucleur pores
-nucleur envelope
-assosiated with histones
Function
-where genetic info held
-controls protein synthesis
Give 2 prokaryotic features not in eukaryotic
Circular DNA
no membrane bound organelle
What do hydrophobic tails and hydrophilic heads do
Hydrophobic tails mean they form a channel
hydrophilic heads allow ions to move through membrane
Explain viral replication
1)Attachment proteins attach to receptors
2)inject nucleic acid
3)reverse transcriptase rna to dna
4)cell produces viral proteins
5) virus is assembled and released
Explain how two enzymes with different amino acid sequence catalyse for same Reaction
-they have similar tertiary sturctures
-so from enzyme substrate complexes
