Bio 14.3 Survival Flashcards
1
Q
Why might animal or plant species become extinct?
A
They become extinct when the environment changes, and they can’t move away or adapt to newer conditions.
2
Q
Why might future climate change affect growing staple crops?
A
The three main crops we consume currently (maize, rice, and wheat) will not be able to adapt to drier conditions.
Newer crops like bananas and cassava will become more popular.

Q
How does global warming in the Arctic affect the number of seals polar bears catch as prey?
A
Polar bears wait at the seals’ water holes and catch their prey from the ice. As the Arctic gets warmer, the ice melts earlier and the bears have less time to hunt.
