BIO-102 Principles of Biology Lab Flashcards
What is the scientific method?
The scientific method is a process used by scientists to study the world around them.
What are the steps in the scientific method (in sequential order)?
Observation, Question, Hypothesis, Experiment, Result/Conclusion.
What is the definition of a hypothesis?
A tentative solution to a problem that is not yet verified.
What is the definition of a variable?
A factor that is varying in an experiment.
What is the definition of a theory?
A theory is a set of accepted beliefs or tested general propositions and regarded as correct.
What is a dependent and independent variable?
Dependent Variable: is the one that is observed or measured in the experiment.
Independent Variable: is the one that is manipulated or changed by the scientist.
What is the control in an experiment?
A group used as a standard of comparison in a controlled experiment.
What are the units of measurement for length, weight and volume?
Length = Meter.
Weight = Gram.
Volume = Liter.
What is biology the study of?
b. Unicellular = Pertaining to one cell
c. Pathology = Study of disease
d. Intercellular = Pertaining to in between the cells

f. Morphology = Study of form /shape.
Life.
What is unicellular pertaining to?
One cell.
What is pathology the study of?
Disease.
What is intercellular pertaining to?
In between cells.
What is microbiology the study of?
