Binomial Distribution Y13 Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference between binomial and normal distributions?
A
Normal distributions model continuous data whereas binomial distributions model discrete data (data which can only take certain values)
2
Q
How do you tackle ‘ double distribution ‘ exam questions?
A
- Use normal distribution method to find the probability of an event occuring
- Use this probability in the new binomial distribution in the follow-up question
3
Q
When can a binomial distribution be approximated to be a normal distribution?
A
- When n is large
(lots of data points) - When p is close to 0.5
