Bingo Practice Flashcards
Define cell?
the basic building blocks of life, all life is made up of cells
Define tissue?
a group of cells working together to preform a specific task
Define integument?
something that covers or encloses; usually enveloping like skin
Define albino?
lack of pigment (melanin) in whole body
What is the skeletal muscle?
the skeletal muscle comprises of the bones of an animal allowing for voluntary movement
Define tail?
body parts located near the sacral region of the spinal column (also known as the caudal vertebrae)
What is epithelial tissue?
tissue that forms the skin and parts of the secreting glands, and lines the body cavities
What is the carpus?
the group of small bones between the main part of the forelimb and the metacarpus (human equivalent of the wrist)
What is smooth muscle?
consists of thick and thin filaments that are not arranged into sarcomeres giving it a non-striated pattern; Responsible for all other involuntary movement, such as breathing, digestion, peristalsis, blinking, etc.
Define metatarsals?
any of the bones of the foot
What is connective tissue?
body tissue that connects, supports, or binds body organs
Define axial?
the part of the skeleton that consists of the bones of the head and trunk of a vertebrate
Define simple & stratified
simple - one cell layer
stratified - multiple cell layers
Define appendicular?
appendicular skeleton is composed of bones of the limbs; one of the two major groups of the skeleton the other being the axial skeleton
What is the glandular epithelial?
also known as glandular tissue, refers to a type of epithelial tissue involved in the production and release of different secretory products, such as sweat, saliva, breast milk, digestive enzymes, and hormones, among many other substances.
Define visceral?
the internal organs of the body
What is the cardiac muscle?
involuntary muscles only found in the heart allowing it to beat
What is an irregular bone?
vary in shape and structure and therefore do not fit into any other category
Define phalanges?
the bones that make up the fingers of the hand and the toes of the foot
What are the 6 types of connective tissue, excluding blood?
1.Adipose
2.Loose
3.Dense
4.Cartilage
5.Elastic
6.Bone
Define scapula?
or shoulder blade is the bone that connects the clavicle to the humerus
What is loose and dense?
the two types of tissue; loose tissue contains loosely connected fibers, while dense tissue has a matrix connecting it
Define cartilage?
a strong, flexible connective tissue that protects your joints and bones
Define reticular, elastic &
collagen fibers?
reticular - highly branched delicate fibers found in organs that have lots of mesh-like structures
elastic - are thinner fibers which can stretch and recoil
collagen - the strongest and thickest protein fibers found abundantly in the connective tissue
Define tibia & fibula?
the tibia and fibula are attached to each other by a connective tissue, composed of collagen and elastic fibers; tibia is a larger bone on the inside, and the fibula is a smaller bone on the outside of the bone below the femur
What is the cervical spine?
the neck region of your spinal column or backbone
Define pneumatic, long &
sesamoid?
pneumatic - a bone that contains many air cells and thus is hollow
long - a bone that has a shaft and 2 ends and is longer than it is wide
sesamoid - is a bone embedded within a tendon or a muscle
Define adipocyte?
a cell specialized for the storage of fat, found in connective tissue.
