Q

How does binary fission work?

A
  • Circular DNA replicates and both copies attach to cell membrane
  • Plasmids also replicate
  • Cell membrane begins to grow between 2 DNA molecules and begins to pitch inwards, dividing cytoplasm into 2
  • New cell wall forms between 2 DNA, dividing original cell into 2 identical daughter cells

Q

How do viruses replicate?

A
  • Attach to host cells with attachment proteins
  • They then inject nuclei acid into the host cell
  • Genetic material provides instructions for hosts metabolic processes
  • Starts producing viral components which are then assembled into new viruses
