Bilogical Basis Of Learning Flashcards
Types of memory brain damage
Retrograde amnesia = cannot remember events prior to the brain damage
Anterograde amnesia = cannot remember events after brain damage, failure of consolidation
Three store memory model
Sensory information
STM - rehearsal and consolidation
LTM
Facts and events memory
Declarative or explicit memory
Forms of memory expressed as skills, habits and simple forms of conditioning
Non-declarative or implicit memory
Clark et al. (1992)
Reversible lesions of the cerebellar interpositus nucleus during acquisition and retention of a classically conditioned behaviour.
Rhinal cortex has the biggest effect on retention.
What procedure did HM have?
Bilateral medial-temporal lobectomy
Couldn’t learn anything new
Good STM, LTM only from before the procedure
Retained classical conditioning for eye blink trials
