1st Amendment
Protects speech, assembly, petition, religion, press (cases: Schenck v US, Tinker v Des Moines, Engle v Vitale)
2nd Amendment
Right to bear arms
4th Amendment
protection against unreasonable search and seizure ,press of obtaining a search warrant
5th Amendment
right to a trial, no double jeopardy, individuals are not required o testify against themselves, eminent domain
6th Amendment
right to a speedy, public, and impartial trial with a lawyer
8th Amendment
no excessive bail or fines, no cruel and unusual punishment
9th Amendment
Citizens have rights beyond what is listed in the US Constitution
10th Amendment
Powers not given to the federal government or denied of the states are reserved to the states (sets up federalism)
13th Amendment
Abolishes slavery and indentured servitude
14th Amendment
Granted the freed slaves US Citizenship, states must grant due process & equal protection of the law to all citizens (brown v board of Ed)
15th Amendment
Granted African-American males the right to vote
17th Amendment
Changed the method electing the US senate, senators would be directly elected by the people
19th Amendment
Granted women the right to vote
22nd Amendment
Limited the President of the US to two, 4 year terms
23rd Amendment
Gave residents of Washington D.C three electoral college votes
