1st Amendment
Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.
2nd Amendment
Right to bare arms; refers to state militias.
3rd Amendment
Prohibits the government from housing soldiers (Quartering Amendment).
4th Amendment
No unreasonable search and arrest.
5th Amendment
Prohibits Double Jeopardy (punishment twice for the same offense), prohibits testimony against yourself, and guarantees due process under the law.
6th Amendment
Rights of the accused in criminal cases including the right to a “speedy and public” trial.
7th Amendment
Protects the right of trial by jury.
8th Amendment
No excessive bail or cruel punishment (tar and feathering).
9th Amendment
People retain rights not listed in the Constitution.
10th Amendment
Power not given to the federal government is given to the people or states (State’s Rights).
