Most important rights for citizens and tries to safeguard and protect them from the state

What does the BoR act do?
Limit power of monarch

Has limited use and not a wide reaching piece of legislation that is discussed today

Conservative gov proposed plans to replace HRA 1998 with a bill of rights
Where does the BoR mention?
The queens speech in 2015+16
Why might we not need a BoR?
Present rights are protected through the ECHR and HRA, which could suggest we do not need a BoR

What does the BoR provide?
The BoR of 1689 provided protections for individual liberties and established rights such as:
Freedom of speech
Debates in parliament
Prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment
Right to bear arms in self defence
Idea of bill of rights
Not new but has received more attention over the years
Who develops BoR?
Several political parties have expressed an interest in developing a bill of rights
Why might we not need a BoR?
Due to fact we have ECHR and HRA
