Bill of Rights
Rights that are guaranteed by the government
First amendment
Freedom of religion, speech, press, petition, and assembly
Second amendment
The right for people to keep and bear arms
Third amendment
Government cannot force you to keep soldiers in homes without owners consent
Fourth amendment
Protection from unreasonable search and seizures (need a search warrant)
Fifth amendment
Guaranteed all legal processes must be fair
Sixth amendment
Gives the accused the right to a speedy trial, a trial by an impartial judge, the right to an attorney
Seventh amendment
Guarantees a trial by jury in all cases were more than $20.00 is at stake
Eighth amendment
Protects citizen from excessive bail, fines and cruel and unusual punishment
Ninth amendment
Citizens are entitled to any other basic human rights that are not listed in the Constitution
Tenth amendment
Powers not given to the federal government belong to the states
