Why is language and dialect always constantly changing?
Nature of language is dynamic and constantly changing/modifying because of contact with other speakers
How is dialect different from accent?
Dialect is more based on sentence structure and morhpology.
Accent is how a sentence is said based on their differet use of phoneme apparatus
What is SAE and what does it stand for?
Standard Anerican English ; An idealization of a dominant and presigious accent
*No dialect/accent is superior
As of today,what is Standard American English used for?
Writing essays,papers, and radio broadcasts
Why is it possible to lose an accent or language?
When surrounded by a certain accent or language, we are naturally able to adapt
What is bilingualism?
Gaining communicative skills with various degrees in proficiency oral or written form in order to talk with speakers of (1) or more given to a society
What is the difference between proficiency and fluency?
Proficiency is knowledge of a language. The knowledge to comprehend oral and written.
Fluency is the ability to speak and understand smoothly without hesitation.
What is L1 and L2?
L1 is language exposed to at birth;mother language
L2 are languages learned & acquired after L1
What is First Language Acquisition (Innateness Theory)?
All humans have the innate, biologically pre-programemed ability to acquire and develop a language like biological functions
What do we mean when someone has an accent?
They have Phonemic distinctions “pronunciation” revealing the region of where they grew up in their country

What is LAD
Language Acquisition Device ; Brain is capable to categorize and process words and sounds in a language system
What is Universal Grammer?
Every person is born with the basic grammatical structures in all human languages.
When exposed to own’s L1, the brain will organize and disregard other structures not needed.
When does First Language Acquisition fully develop?
First 3-5 years of life
