Biliary tract, gall bladder, pancreas and spleen Flashcards
Gut-associated organs
- Liver
- Spleen
- Gall bladder
- Pancreas
Bile secreted
by hepatocytes into bile canaliculi
Intrahepatic bile duct
- Run parallel to portal vein and hepatic artery
- Smaller bile ducts (ductules) - much thinner wall and cuboidal epithelium
- Larger bile ducts have a loose connective tissue (flexible) and single layer of columnar epithelium
Larger bile duct
loose connective tissue (flexible) and single layer of columnar epithelium
Smaller bile duct
(ductules) - much thinner wall and cuboidal epithelium
Extrahepatic bile duct
7cm
Runs in free edge lesser omentum
Joined by cystic duct near port hepatis
meets with right end of pancreatic duct - ampulla Vater
Enters 2nd part duodenum at sphincter of Oddi
Extrahepatic bile duct joined by
cystic duct near port hepatis
Ampulla Vater
Extrahepatic bile duct meets with right end of pancreatic duct
Extrahepatic bile duct enters
2nd part duodenum at sphincter of Oddi
Extrahepatic bile duct wall
- Duct wall - dense fibrous connective tissue
- Duct wall also contains smooth muscle cells
- Lumen - highly columnar epithelium
- Blood: cystic vessels (from Coeliac and into portal)
