Genesis 1-3
Genesis 1-3 Creation, Fall, Promised Redemption. This passage is very foundational as
it explains 1. The origins of all of creation 2. The original design of humanity (gender
marriage, relationships.) and 3. The description of the fall of humanity and gives an
explanation of what is wrong with the world we live in. Genesis 3 contains the first Gospel
(protoevangelium), or the first promise of a savior to come. This passage is crucial to help
gain a Biblical worldview. It helps us understand not only our origins, but also our original
design. It also helps us understand what has went wrong in the world, and points to God’s
solution to this problem.
Gen 12
Genesis 12 The Abrahamic covenant. God promises to bless Abraham and, through him, to bless all the nations. This passage is essential in helping understand and explain the story of the Bible. Genesis 12 is the origin of the nation of Israel and the Abrahamic covenant which was ultimately fulfilled through Jesus.
Psalm 22
Psalm 22 My God, my God why have you forsaken me. Messianic prophesy foreshadowing the crucifixion of Jesus. The Psalm Jesus himself quoted on the cross This passage is a key text to use to explain the detailed prophesies given regarding Jesus. It is also a text that can be used to prove the credibility of the Bible.
Matthew 16, Acts 2
Matthew 16, Acts 2 These passages are all about the church. Matt 16 reveals to us the mission of the church and founder of the church (Jesus) in Acts 2 we see significant components of the first church. After Jesus returned to heaven and the Holy Spirit was given to believers, a new community emerged among the new believers that included them devoting themselves to the apostles teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread,
and to prayer. They were united and the Lord added to their number daily those who believed
Phillipians 2
Philippians 2 The Kenosis. This passage is often referred to as the Kenosis which is the Greek word meaning emptied. Philippians 2 refers to the way in which Jesus Christ
emptied himself for us and therefore calls Christians to empty themselves for others. This passage can be used to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others as well as explain
the motivation behind the entire Christian life. This passage refutes a “works motivated religion (i.e. must work to earn God’s forgiveness and grace). Instead it reveals that the entire Christian life is a response and emulation of what Christ has already done for us
1) The most important thing to God seems to be following tons of rules.
Matthew 22:37-40
2) God’s plan to send Jesus as a Savior seems kind of late in the game - you would think
He would have thought about saving people before things got so bad … It would also be
nice to know how it’s all going to end.
Gen 3:15
3) The Old Testament is not relevant to the New Testament. It’s pretty outdated and doesn’t have significance within the Bible.
Like 24:27
4) I’m a new Christian and I just don’t think God has an intent for my life; further, I feel alone and inadequate. (Extra Credit: use the terms imperative and indicative in your answer)
Matthew 28:18-20
5) The Bible is really not that big of a deal - it was just written by a bunch of men anyhow and no longer has purpose.
2 Tim 3:16-17
